Prescription Sport Glasses

See Better, Perform Better.

We regularly help adults and children understand their options. This page explains how prescription sports eyewear works, who it suits, and what alternatives may be appropriate.

What are Prescription Sports Glasses?

prescription sports glasses

Prescription sports glasses are custom-made eyewear that:

  • Correct your vision
  • Use impact-resistant lens materials
  • Stay secure during movement
  • Provide side protection
  • Offer UV protection for outdoor sport

They are different from everyday glasses. Sports frames are typically lightweight, flexible, and shaped to wrap around the face. Lenses are usually made from polycarbonate or similar materials that are more resistant to shattering.

Why Regular Glasses Are Not Safe Not Sport

Standard prescription glasses are designed for daily wear, not impact or fast movement. During sport they may:

  • Slip down your nose
  • Fall off during contact
  • Break on impact
  • Leave the sides of your eyes exposed

In some cases, broken frames or lenses can increase the risk of injury. Sports eyewear is built with this risk in mind.

Types of Prescription Eyewear Available at E Eye Place

Wraparound sports glasses

These provide a wider field of view and better peripheral coverage. They are popular for:

  • Cycling
  • Running
  • Golf
  • Outdoor training

The curved design reduces wind exposure and improves stability.

Sports goggles

Sports goggles use a strap system to hold the frame securely in place. They are commonly recommended for:

  • Basketball

  • Football

  • Netball

  • School contact sport

They offer added stability and protection, especially for younger wearers.

Prescription sports sunglasses

For Perth’s bright conditions, prescription sports sunglasses can include:

  • UV protection

  • Polarised lenses to reduce glare

  • Tints that enhance contrast

These are useful for beach sports, cycling, fishing, and long outdoor sessions.

Children Prescription Sports Glasses

Children’s eyes can change quickly. If a child’s prescription is outdated, sports performance and safety can be affected.

Sports goggles designed for children:

  • Sit securely

  • Reduce the risk of breakage

  • Protect developing eyes

  • Improve comfort during play

We take extra care to ensure proper fit and comfort for younger patients.

Prescription Running Glasses Perth

Prescription running glasses are designed to stay secure, reduce glare and provide sharp distance vision while you are on the move

During a run, even small vision issues can become frustrating. Glasses that slip, bounce or fog up can distract you and affect performance. Clear distance vision is especially important for:

  • Spotting uneven pavement or trail obstacles

  • Judging distance in group runs or events

  • Running safely in low light

  • Reducing glare during early morning or afternoon sessions

In Perth’s bright outdoor conditions, UV protection and glare reduction are particularly important for long coastal or riverside runs.

Prescription Swimming Goggles Perth

For swimmers who rely on glasses, jumping into the pool without clear vision can feel disorienting. Prescription swimming goggles allow you to see clearly in the water while protecting your eyes from chlorine, salt and debris.

Unlike regular glasses, swim goggles are sealed, watertight and designed specifically for use in pools or open water.

Good vision while swimming is important for:

  • Seeing lane markings and wall distances
  • Tracking other swimmers in squad sessions
  • Spotting coaches’ signals
  • Navigating open water safely

For children, clear vision can improve confidence and safety during lessons.

If you are short-sighted, even a mild prescription can make a noticeable difference in the pool.

Our Bulk Billing Policy

E Eye Place Port Coogee and Newing & Co will be transitioning into a Private Practice and will no longer be routinely bulk billing patients. Much like any other small business, GP clinics and many other allied health professionals have to charge gap fees to keep up with the rising costs of inflation.

I had such a positive experience at E Eye Place Coogee with Anjuli. My puppy had chewed my lens pretty bad, and Anjuli was able to help me right away on the day. I had my lenses ordered and they arrived within 3 business days, it would’ve been on the day if I didn’t have such a complex prescription in one eye. Once my lenses arrived, I had them fitted within half an hour after trying on new frames, and Anjuli was able to save my old frames too. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

A huge thank you to Stephanie at E Eye place!! After my husband received chemical burns to his eye and receiving sub
par care from both public & private hospitals, I sought another opinion for further management and treatment and Stephanie was literally an eye saver! She was able to see him over the weekend and provided care until he was able to see an ophthalmologist which she organised as an urgent referral. Thank you so much for all your care and going above and beyond for your clients!

Very helpful and friendly staff. Had problems with another company who provided good customer service but were unable to provide me with glasses that worked for me after trying a few different things over more than a year. After speaking to Kerry Initially and then Lionel, they were confident they knew why the other company was unable to help and what type of lenses I needed (a product the other company didn’t have access to). I went with their advice and have been amazed at the difference. I got my first pair of glasses over a year ago and have never felt comfortable wearing any of the glasses they supplied. These ones are so good I forget I have them on. E Eye place has the expertise and the patience that made a huge difference to me. Thank you so much, I’ll definitely be coming back.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you play contact or high-movement sport, everyday glasses are not designed for impact or stability. Prescription sports glasses are built to stay secure and use more impact-resistant materials, which can reduce the risk of injury and breakage.

As with any other vision problem, the key is to detect the problem early. That way, colour blindness can be corrected effectively. You can check your child’s ability to perceive colours with the use of a dotted colour chart.

Yes, in most sporting environments. Sports eyewear typically uses impact-resistant lenses and flexible frames designed to handle movement and accidental contact. Standard glasses are not tested for the same level of durability.

Yes. Children who wear glasses for distance often benefit from sports-specific eyewear during school sport or weekend games. Sports goggles with straps are commonly recommended for ball and contact sports to improve safety and stability.

Yes. Prescription sports sunglasses can include UV protection, glare reduction and tinted or polarised lenses. These are particularly useful in bright outdoor conditions across Perth.

Some people prefer contact lenses for sport because they offer a wide field of vision and no frames. However, they are not suitable for everyone and require healthy eyes and good hygiene. A contact lens consultation can help determine whether they are appropriate for you.

If your prescription is outdated, your sports eyewear may not provide clear or comfortable vision. A comprehensive eye examination ensures your prescription is accurate before ordering sports glasses or goggles.

Wearing contact lenses in pools or the ocean increases the risk of infection. Prescription swimming goggles are generally the safer option for regular swimmers.
